Polydev documentation

Every AI model, inside the app you already use. Ask GPT from Claude, Claude from ChatGPT, or make an image with Nano Banana from Codex.

What Polydev is

Polydev lets the app you already use ask other AI models. Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Cline keep their own model and sign-in. When you name another model, the app calls Polydev, and the answer comes back where you are working.

Pick the model per task: plan in Claude, have GPT check the migration, ask Grok what people are saying. Want two takes? Ask GPT and Gemini, and you get both.

Polydev is free. There are no plans, tiers or credits to buy. Every answer says what paid for it: Polydev's free requests, your API keys or OpenRouter, or, in the local client, your ChatGPT plan or your own Claude Code or Codex.

Quick start

Nothing to install. Add the link to your app and sign in in the browser on first use.

For example, in Claude Code, then run /mcp and choose Polydev to sign in:

terminal
claude mcp add --transport http polydev https://polydev.ai/mcp
Try asking
  • “Have GPT check this migration before I run it.”
  • “Ask Claude to rewrite this in plain English.”
  • “Ask GPT and Gemini, then tell me where they disagree.”

Tools

The hosted link offers four tools. Your app calls them when you ask.

ask_modelAsk other AI models

Sends the prompt to one model, several, or the models set up in your account, and returns each answer with what paid for it.

The older name get_perspectives still works and takes the same inputs.

InputTypeWhat it is
promptrequiredstringThe question or task, with the context the models need.
modelstringOne model ID to ask (see list_models).
modelsstring[]Model IDs to ask, at most 10. By default, the models set up in your account.
temperaturenumberSampling temperature, 0.0 to 2.0.
list_modelsList available models

Lists the models you can reach right now and what would pay for each, plus how many free requests are left.

InputTypeWhat it is
providerstringOnly list one provider, for example "openai".
search_xSearch X

Searches recent public posts on X and returns a summary with links to the posts. Read-only.

Needs your own xAI API key, added in the dashboard.

InputTypeWhat it is
queryrequiredstringWhat to search X for.
rank_perspectivesRank the answers

Records which answers from ask_model helped most, when you ask it to. Rankings feed the public leaderboard as counts.

InputTypeWhat it is
ranked_modelsrequiredstring[]Model IDs from the ask_model answers, best first.
model_scoresobjectA score from 1 to 10 per model ID.
feedback_textstringWhy they were ranked this way.

The local client adds generate_image, connect_chatgpt_plan, chatgpt_plan_status, login and get_auth_status. Protocol details are in the MCP reference.

Connecting and disconnecting apps

When you add Polydev to an app, the app opens your browser to sign in to Polydev and asks you to approve the connection. Sign-in uses OAuth; you never copy a token by hand.

To see or remove the apps you connected, open Dashboard → Connected apps. You can add an app again any time; it signs in the same way.

The local client

Optional. The npm package polydev-ai (1.12.0, Node.js 20 or newer, Apache-2.0) runs Polydev on your machine. It adds image models, Continue with ChatGPT for your ChatGPT plan, and the Claude Code or Codex you are signed in to there. It never runs the CLI of the app that called it.

Claude Code
claude mcp add polydev -- npx -y polydev-ai@latest

Other clients: command npx, arguments -y polydev-ai@latest. The first call opens your browser to sign in. To use your ChatGPT plan, run connect_chatgpt_plan from your app or:

terminal
npx -y polydev-ai chatgpt login

Full local setup

Choosing models and adding your own keys

In Dashboard → Models you choose which models ask_model asks by default and add your own API keys, including an OpenRouter key. Your app can also name a model for one call, for example “ask GPT”, and list_models shows what you can reach.

Newest models per provider, from the live catalogue:

OpenAI

The newest models appear here from the catalogue.

Anthropic

The newest models appear here from the catalogue.

Google

The newest models appear here from the catalogue.

xAI

The newest models appear here from the catalogue.

Any model in the live catalogue works with your own key. This list updates as providers ship new models.

Free requests

So Polydev works before you connect anything, each account gets 10 requests on Polydev's keys, up to $1 in total, with no card. When they run out, add your own keys or OpenRouter in the dashboard, or use the local client with your ChatGPT plan. X search is not part of the free requests; it needs your own xAI key.

Privacy

  • Prompts go to the model providers you chose.
  • Prompts from connected apps are used only to answer them: never for training, never in datasets, never sold.
  • Prompt and response text is deleted after 30 days.
  • Disconnect apps any time in Dashboard → Connected apps.

Read the full privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

401 Unauthorized, or the app says Polydev needs authentication

Your sign-in expired or the app was disconnected. Sign in again from your app:

  • Claude Code: run /mcp, choose Polydev, then authenticate.
  • Codex: run codex mcp login polydev.
  • Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others: choose Connect next to Polydev in the app's connector or MCP settings.
The free requests have run out
Add your own API keys or an OpenRouter key in Dashboard → Models, or use the local client with your ChatGPT plan.
search_x says it needs an xAI key
X search runs only on your own xAI key. Add it in Dashboard → Models.
Polydev tools do not appear in the app
Check the URL is exactly https://polydev.ai/mcp with the Streamable HTTP transport, then restart the app. For the local client, check that node --version is 20 or newer.
